HighQ + Word integration – @mentions limitation and possible alternatives

Hi all,

I’m working on a HighQ CLM use case where users edit Word documents from both Word Desktop and Word Online via HighQ.

We’ve observed that @mentions in Word comments are not available in either scenario:

  • No user suggestions when typing “@”
  • Comments behave as native Word comments
  • No integration with HighQ user directory or notifications

This seems aligned with the current architecture, where Word runs independently and does not connect to HighQ or M365 directory services in this context.

That said, we’re exploring whether there are any supported or extensible approaches to enhance this use case. Specifically:

  • Any integration patterns with Microsoft Entra ID / Microsoft Graph for user resolution or notifications
  • Possibility of extending functionality via Office Add-ins (Desktop)
  • Alternative approaches to improve collaboration experience (even partially)
  • Any roadmap items related to deeper M365 collaboration integration

Has anyone explored similar scenarios or implemented any workaround or extension in this space?

Appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

Thanks!
