What data is covered in the community?
In our communities, personal data typically appears in two places:
-
Account/Profile data
Examples: your name, email address, profile fields, and settings. -
User-generated content
Examples: forum posts and replies, comments, ideas, wiki/blog content, and uploaded files/attachments.
This distinction matters because some actions remove your profile data while keeping discussion content available in an anonymized form.
Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): Delete your account
Self-delete: "Delete my account"
You can delete your own community account at any time:
- Go to your Profile Settings
- Select Delete my account
What happens when you self-delete:
- Your personal data is removed from your community member record.
- Your contributions are anonymized by being reassigned to a "former member" account (so conversations can remain useful to others).
Important limitation: If you posted personal data inside a post (for example, you typed an email address, phone number, or other identifiers into a forum thread), that information is not automatically removed when content is anonymized.
If you need content edited/removed due to personal or confidential information, contact us at community.manager@thomsonreuters.com.
Community manager assistance (if needed)
If you're unable to self-delete (for example, you can't access your account), a community manager can help remove your account and personal data. Depending on the situation, content may be deleted or anonymized.
Data Portability: Export your data
Self-export (recommended): "Request Export"
You can export your community data without contacting a community manager:
- Go to User Settings
- Open the Options tab
- Click Request Export
How the export is delivered
- When your export is ready, you'll be notified by:
- Private message (if private messaging is enabled)
What's included
Your export is delivered as a .zip file containing community data originated by you, such as:
- Conversations (full conversations are included, not only the messages you sent)
- Blog posts
- Media posts
- Forum threads and replies
- Wiki pages
- Comments
- Status messages
- Ideas
- Calendar events
- Friends
- Profile data
- Files referenced within your content (included in a
files/subfolder in the ZIP)
Format
- The export is provided in JSON format.
Community manager assistance (if needed)
If you can't access your account to request an export, a community manager can assist with exporting your community data. Contact us at community.manager@thomsonreuters.com.

Removing a single post or file (important for personal/confidential info)
Members can delete their own posts only if there are no replies.
If you accidentally posted personal data or confidential information (in a post or attachment), please contact us and include links to the content so we can review and take appropriate action.
